The Chief Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient, and economical operation of all machinery and engineering systems onboard the vessel. This includes managing the engine room crew, ensuring compliance with all international and local maritime regulations, and maintaining all technical documentation. The role is stationed in Abu Dhabi and may involve offshore duties, depending on the vessel's operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of the ship’s engine, propulsion systems, and auxiliary equipment.
- Lead and manage the engineering crew onboard, ensuring adherence to safety and performance standards.
- Monitor and maintain all machinery to ensure operational readiness and prevent breakdowns.
- Ensure compliance with all SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, and flag state regulations.
- Plan and carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and overhauls in accordance with the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
- Maintain engine room logs, technical reports, fuel/bunker reports, and inventory records.
- Collaborate with the Captain and other officers to ensure smooth vessel operations.
- Liaise with port authorities, classification societies, and technical managers during inspections and audits.
- Oversee bunkering operations and manage fuel and lube oil consumption efficiently.
- Train, evaluate, and mentor junior engineers and engine room staff.
Qualifications:
- Valid Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (STCW Reg. III/2), unlimited horsepower.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role onboard seagoing vessels (e.g., offshore support vessels, tankers, bulk carriers).
- Valid seafarer documents (passport, Seaman Book, STCW certificates, Medical Certificate).
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience working under Abu Dhabi Port regulations or ADNOC operations is an advantage.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
