Responsibilities:
- IV Canulation: Perform IV cannulation in a home setting, ensuring the procedure is safe and comfortable for the patient.
- Patient Assessment: Evaluate patients’ conditions and veins to determine the best site for IV access, taking into account their medical history and any specific needs.
- Medication Administration: Administer medications, fluids, or blood products through the IV as prescribed by healthcare providers.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Regularly monitor the patient’s response to treatment, checking for any complications such as infection, infiltration, or adverse reactions.
- Education: Educate patients and their families about the IV process, potential side effects, and home care procedures.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of treatments administered, patient observations, and any changes in the patient's condition.
- Collaboration: Communicate with other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care and to report any significant findings.
Qualifications:
Typically, an assistant nurse in this specialty will have completed relevant nursing education and training, along with certifications specific to IV therapy and cannulation techniques.
This role is essential in ensuring that patients receive the necessary treatments efficiently and safely.
