Job Summary:
The Motor Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a variety of vehicles, including cars, vans, and light trucks. This role involves diagnosing mechanical issues, performing routine servicing, replacing faulty components, and ensuring that all vehicles meet safety and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect vehicles to identify mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment.
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs in line with manufacturer specifications.
- Dismantle and reassemble vehicle components as required.
- Repair or replace faulty parts, such as brakes, suspension, transmissions, and steering systems.
- Perform engine overhauls, tuning, and adjustments to ensure optimal performance.
- Test and adjust repaired systems to meet safety and performance standards.
- Maintain accurate records of services and repairs performed.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized automotive equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Provide technical advice to customers regarding necessary repairs and maintenance schedules.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service bulletins.
- Skilled in using diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Good communication skills to explain issues and solutions to clients or supervisors.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform hands-on mechanical work.
Qualifications & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (vocational training in automotive technology preferred).
- Certification in Automotive Mechanics or equivalent (e.g., NVQ, ASE).
- Minimum 2–5 years’ experience in vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions:
- Workshop environment, with exposure to noise, grease, and vehicle exhaust fumes.
- May require working extended hours, weekends, or on-call shifts depending on workload.
