Job Summary:
The Oiler (Motorman) is a key member of the engine department responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and cleanliness of the engine room and associated machinery. Working under the direction of engineering officers, the Oiler supports day-to-day engine operations aboard vessels operating out of Abu Dhabi, with potential offshore deployment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist engineering officers in operating and maintaining main engines, generators, pumps, compressors, purifiers, and other auxiliary machinery.
- Perform regular oiling, greasing, and lubrication of mechanical equipment.
- Monitor machinery temperatures, pressures, and fluid levels; report abnormalities to engineers.
- Carry out routine engine room cleaning, maintenance, and housekeeping tasks.
- Support bunkering operations and ensure fuel transfer systems are handled safely.
- Maintain cleanliness of the engine room, bilges, and equipment areas.
- Participate in safety drills and be familiar with emergency shutdown procedures.
- Maintain tools and inventory of consumables and spare parts under supervision.
- Follow all environmental and safety regulations (MARPOL, ISM, etc.).
Qualifications:
- Valid STCW Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW) or Oiler Certificate.
- STCW Basic Safety Training, Security Awareness, and relevant engine room training certificates.
- Valid Seaman’s Book, Passport, and Medical Certificate (as per STCW / MLC 2006).
- Minimum 1–2 years of engine room experience on seagoing or offshore vessels.
- Familiar with the safe use of tools and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to work under pressure in confined and hot environments.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior service on vessels operating in UAE waters, especially under ADNOC or Abu Dhabi Maritime.
- Experience on offshore support vessels, tugboats, or oil and gas service ships.
- Familiarity with planned maintenance systems (PMS) is a plus.
