Job Overview:
The Principal Operations Engineer is responsible for interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending best practices. They will be tasked with solving complex Operations-related problems and will work independently with minimal guidance. The Principal Operations Engineer may be responsible for leading functional teams or projects and are regarded as a specialist in the field of Operations. As such, they must have in-depth expertise in Operations as well as broad knowledge of the Operations discipline within the Fabrication function.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Review and approve installation procedures and engineering to ensure they meet the project and McDermott minimum requirements and follow good engineering practices and enable work to be performed safely
- Supervise the Field Engineers in their planning and execution of the offshore project
- Supervise the Field Engineers during the preparation of material lists for construction materials and liaise with the Project Coordinator for procurement of requirements in a timely manner
- Resolve any technical problems that arise during offshore installation and assist in any corrective action that is required
- Ensure there is coordination with the Fabrication/Loadout Contractor affecting operations under supervision
- Liaise with the fabrication hook-up group on the projects that they are responsible for and provide them with the required marine support equipment and logistics assistance
- Develop the scope of work, assist in the award of subcontracts, and then coordinate the same
- Review invoices received from vendors and subcontractors for errors or omissions in work performed or materials supplied
- Provide or coordinate input to the tender process as required
- Ensure conformance to Level 2 procedures for all the project-specific wire rope applications and rigging
- Manage the project fabrication inter/intra-function coordination throughout various phases with engineering, SCM, detail design, fabrication, and hook-up
- Identify resource needs for the fabrication portion of the project and report the fabrication status of the project with minimal guidance
- Lead and develop the project’s fabrication execution strategy
- Understand the overall project scope of work to lead and guide the multi-discipline production engineering team to meet project fabrication deliverables in line with the fabrication sequence/schedule
- Manages project fabrication progress within schedule, and productivity within targeted budget in coordination with the project Construction Manager and Project Construction Superintendent
- Appraises functional and project management on project fabrication status including issues which is expected to impact the forecasted progress, productivity, and schedule commitments with possible mitigation plans
- Lead the Fabrication Bid coordination efforts on assigned Bid projects including completing the deliverables to meet submission dates
- Interface with key project personnel from various functions like Engineering, SCM, Quality, Cost control, Marine Operations, hook up etc. to meet priorities and schedule dates for project fabrication requirements
- Ensure necessary documentation and compliance with procedural requirements throughout the project/Bid phases
- Establish a productive working relationship with client and third-party representatives
- Conduct Fabrication and Load out HAZID meeting with all project stakeholders and fab team
- Conduct Fabrication readiness meetings with all the functional leads and ensure the continuity of fabrication
- Manage any scope of work changes and ensure AFC estimates are getting updated in line with the scope changes
- Chair the fabrication kick-off meeting at the commencement of the project
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in any relevant Engineering Discipline
- 5 to 7 years of experience in the Offshore Industry
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience
- Working knowledge of design and offshore project execution
