The Senior Engineer I (Piping & Emission Verifications) is responsible for the activities related to an assigned organizational element, program, project or task. Will normally plan, conduct and supervise engineering design reviews and analysis assignments involving a major project or several smaller or less complex projects. These projects by nature of their complexity and difficulty require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular field of engineering or scientific field. Project work and assignments may be broad in nature requiring ingenuity and cross functional coordination.
What You Will Do:
- Provides day-to-day leadership of Engineering staff assigned. Assigns projects to Engineers and monitors the progress of all assigned projects. Ensures the delivery of high quality service and maintenance of good customer relations.
- Review of the Piping diagrams, Piping Hydraulic calculations, Firefighting Systems, Mechanical components and onboard manuals based on the ABS Rules, Statutory Regulations like SOLAS, IMO MODU Code, MARPOL, etc.
- Devises new approaches to problems encountered and makes recommendations for changes in methods, procedures or design where necessary.
- Monitors the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity and timeliness of action of all assigned projects.
- Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibility. Performs engineering reviews and analyses when necessary. Reviews other engineers' work and provides appropriate guidance and training when necessary.
- Participates in the development and changes of Rules. Advises assigned staff in matters related to the application of Rules and Regulations.
- Prepares written response to clients in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintains liaison with other engineering specialists internally and externally.
- Monitors the performance, development potential and training needs of engineers assigned. Keeps management informed of manpower needs.
- Develops or assists in the development of qualification statements, proposals, bids and other presentation materials.
- Implements and maintains the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management Systems within assigned area of responsibility.
- Prepares accurate billing to clients.
What You Will Need:
Education & Experience
- Experienced Machinery Engineer from Industry
- Ten to fifteen (10‒15) years of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society; or two (2) years as an ABS Engineer II.
- B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering or other related disciplines; an M.S. is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Should have advanced practical industry related experience.
- Knowledge of the Marine Vessels and Offshore units and Related systems.
- Knowledge of the Piping Systems, Pipe fittings, Firefighting systems, Machineries, Mechanical components, Materials and Manuals used onboard.
- Knowledge of the latest Statutory updates or latest technologies involved in the Marine and Offshore industry.
- Knowledge of Class Rules, Regulations like SOLAS, FSS Code, MARPOL, IMO MODU Code, etc.
- The following will be considered as an added advantage. Knowledge of several emission related documents and regulations as published by Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC Regulations and Circulars), European Union Monitoring, Reporting, Verification (EU-MRV), United Kingdom Monitoring, Reporting, Verification (UK MRV) and other related technical disciplines required.
- Knowledge of company business policies and procedures.
- The human relations skills necessary to maintain positive client contacts and provide leadership and motivation to subordinate staff and peers.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to identify, analyze and solve complex or unique engineering problems.
- Ability to undertake short- and long-term planning to provide for efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments.
- A working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management Systems (internal candidates only).
Reporting Relationships
Generally reports to a Principal Engineer but may report to others depending on specific of assignment.
