Job Description
JOB PURPOSE:
The Business Finance function is responsible for all finance matters specific to the business including, but not limited to Performance, Control, Forecasting, Budgeting & Strategy. In addition, the function provides a key support role to other Group Finance functions; Treasury, Central FP&A, Tax as well as Financial & Regulatory Reporting.
The Business Finance team comprises of individual functions globally supporting the following products; Global Corporate Finance, Transaction Banking, Global Markets along with the Coverage functions under Corporate & Commercial banking and Investment banking. The unit falls under the Group Finance department and reports to the CFO – CCB, IB & International.
Key priorities of this role include:
- Being a trusted Finance advisor on business performance & strategic issues specific to the business
- Production of in-depth Financial Analysis covering both Corporate & Commercial and Investment Banking
- Execution of Finance & business initiatives - centralized MI and commentaries, country and business reviews, strategy papers, balanced scorecard
- Providing world class financial reporting & support services, adding value through professional, independent & objective financial analysis, which assist in the achievement of business objectives whilst complying with Group policies and standards, and external statutory obligations.

- Participate in the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes and practices considering global standards, productivity improvement and cost reduction.
Products, Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
- Provide inputs for implementation of policies, new products, systems and procedures for the CCB & IB Business Finance team so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements, fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service
- Lead the Business Finance function for both Investment Banking (“IB”) Coverage and Corporate & Commercial Banking Finance.
- Primary Finance Business Partner to global Head of CCB (N1), Head of IB (N1) and IB sector and segment Coverage heads (N2). In addition, leading the Analysis & Governance stream involves collaboration with other N1/N2s across CCB & IB Products and coverage units, requiring an ability to build strong cross-functional relationships with senior leaders across the FAB group.
- Provide direction to the businesses through value-adding insights; driving growth through return and balance sheet optimisation, capital allocation, client selection and strategic planning. Periodically conduct business review to critically assess business performance and strategy - including revenue and expense trends, volumes, pricing, gross margin trends and drivers, Peer review of countries and businesses, etc.
- Influence policy & decision-making as the principle finance representative on: Strategic Projects & Initiatives: Advise and participate in FAB’s inorganic growth opportunities and divestments: perform valuations, conduct strategic fit and opportunity assessments, lead and participate in transaction execution of any M&A opportunities
- Business Management Forums & Reviews: Pipeline, Credit Approval Committees, ALCO’s & Strategy related meetings specific to IB Coverage and CCB.
- Lead the Planning and Forecasting for IB Coverage and CCB as well as oversight of the process globally across CCB & IB units. Deliver critical assessment of related Business performance and strategy against the Balanced Scorecard and FAB’s overall goals.
- Provide relevant support to CFO – CCB, IB & International and deputizing on related CCB & IB /Finance forums wherever necessary.
- Provide relevant Coverage support to International CFO’s on Business Performance
- Gather, research and use relevant market, economic, competitor and industry information to influence management decision making and strategic business plans
- Central point of contact for all Control & Governance queries, leading discussions, as appropriate, with both the business as well as relevant enablement functions – Group Finance, Risk, Audit.
- Development and ownership of CCB & IB Finance relevant policies and accountability for adherence therewith.
- Contribute towards the development & rollout of enhanced MIS to support CCB, IB & International
- Work with Treasury on FTP, capital, regulatory and liquidity matters affecting CCB & IB
- Provide leadership, inspire & engender a culture of continuous improvement within the Business Finance team, ensuring that operations are kept continually under review and that all opportunities for re-engineering and achieving economies of scale are identified, implemented.
Qualifications
- Qualified Finance Professional or equivalent 15+ years of banking experience with associated Wholesale product expertise from a leading International bank(s)
- Proven ability in direct management of a finance team from a leading International Bank(s)
- Proven ability in liaising & dealing with senior Business leaders (CEOs), CFOs, Enablement heads, Auditors & External Consultants
- Proven leader with an ability to influence strategic decisions at the highest level of management
- Excellent communication skills with a high degree of personal integrity who can deliver under pressure
- Strong presentation skills and adept in MS Productivity tools e.g. MS PowerPoint and MS Excel
- Technical knowledge of Wholesale & Investment Banking products. Senior level of experience in finance, analysis, strategic planning, banking and financial markets with ability to interpret key bank ratios and economic indicators. Ability to use and apply key strategic concepts, models and tools
- Commercially oriented mind-set and keen awareness of significant trends in financial markets and banking
