Job Title: Technologist Filament Winding
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Technologist with deep expertise in filament winding processes for composite pressure vessels. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and overseeing manufacturing techniques that ensure high-performance, safe, and cost-effective composite pressure vessels for water treatment applications.
This role requires strong technical knowledge of composite materials, resin systems, curing processes, and quality assurance methods, along with hands-on experience operating and programming filament winding machinery.
Key Responsibilities
Process Development & Optimization:
- Design, develop, and implement filament winding process for various pressure vessel sizes, geometries and pressures.
- Select appropriate fibres, resin systems, and winding patterns based on mechanical and chemical performance requirements.
- Develop machine programs, tooling, and mandrel systems to achieve optimal fibre placement and resin content.
- Continuously refine winding parameters to improve efficiency, repeatability, and product performance.
Manufacturing Execution:
- Develop standard operating procedures for filament winding, curing, extraction, and post-processing.
- Train and supervise machine operators.
- Program and supervise the operation of CNC-controlled filament winding machines.
- Troubleshoot equipment, material, or process-related issues to ensure consistent product quality.
- Implement and enforce safety procedures for composite manufacturing processes.
Quality Control & Testing:
- Define and execute quality control procedures.
- Ensure that all products and associated processes meet relevant international standards (e.g. ASME)
Collaboration & Documentation:
- Work closely with the production team to support new product introductions and continuous improvement projects.
- Document processes, work instructions, and technical reports for both production and regulatory compliance.
- Provide training and guidance to technicians and operators on filament winding best practices.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in filament winding, preferably for high-pressure composite vessels.
- Strong knowledge of composite material science, particularly glass fibre and epoxy resin composites.
Technical Competencies
- Proficiency in CNC filament winding machine programming and operation.
- Understanding of epoxy resin systems.
- Familiarity with quality standards for composite pressure vessels (ASME Section X).
