- Assist patients with non-medical care and other ward-related duties as directed by and under supervision of the nurse.
- Respond quickly to patient’s or family’s request for assistance, keeping in mind that patient safety and satisfaction come first.
- Attend the call bell in the department or any alarm in the patient’s room and report to the nurse accordingly.
- Conduct hourly patient rounding, following up on patient comfort and assistance needs.
- Receive non-clinical responsibilities each shift from the nurse.
- Assist the nurse with patient hygiene, elimination, mobility, physical comfort, eating, and drinking needs while observing and reporting any changes to the licensed nurse.
- Clean trolleys used before and after patient care and replace all consumables used.
- Assist nurses in obtaining patient height and weight measurements.
- Effectively assist nurses in maintaining patient elimination.
- Know hospital-approved disinfectants and their indications for use.
- Clean biomedical equipment according to NMC RH Khalifa City policy.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness in all areas, including patient rooms and the nursing station, ensuring surfaces, computers, phones, etc., are cleaned daily and regularly during the shift.
- Collaborate with housekeeping to maintain the cleanliness of the department and the kids' play area.
- Check hand sanitizers at the beginning of each shift and inform housekeeping when they need replacement.
- Liaise with nurses and patients in the OPD setting to support patient satisfaction and provide updates on bed availability and waiting times.
- Replace sharp containers when two-thirds full or when expired, per hospital policy.
- Ensure the cleanliness of the soiled utility room and collaborate with laundry when hampers are full; maintain a record of linen (type and quantity).
- Collect clean linen from laundry.
- Assist in maintaining supply and storage areas; clean supply boxes regularly or at least monthly.
- Maintain pantry cleanliness and coordinate with the nurse and dietary team to remove unneeded trays.
- Transport specimens to the laboratory.
- Comply with patient confidentiality as per hospital policy.
- Act as a messenger as required.
- Escort stable patients by wheelchair or assist with bed transport to and from the Radiology Department or other departments, including the Operating Theatre.
- Accompany discharged patients to the exit and assist them into their cars (wheelchair for maternity patients).
- Assist nursing staff in preparing/cleaning patient rooms for admission/discharge; ensure supplies like tissue and water are provided.
- Report lost or broken items/equipment to the nurse or In-charge when cleaning the room after discharge.
- Clean biomedical equipment after discharge, return it in good condition to the equipment room, and ensure it is plugged in.
- Ensure oxygen cylinders are properly arranged and fixed in their stands; report empty cylinders to nurses.
- Check department rooms daily and complete the environment checklist.
- Maintain a record of borrowed items and follow up for their return to prevent loss.
- Transport instruments for sterilization to CSSD after item count by nurses; collect sterilized items back from CSSD.
- Check CSSD sets monthly for expiry and report any damage to packaging.
- Ensure department curtains are maintained and sent for washing as per policy; keep a record and ensure replacements are available.
- Collect general and stationery items from the store and medications from the pharmacy.
- Participate in scheduled educational activities.
- Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards, and procedures; cooperate with hospital management on compliance.
- Work according to documented OSH procedures and specific responsibilities.
- Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
- Understand patient safety goals relevant to daily activities.
- Notify nurses of OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, or concerns.
- Comply with waste management and transmission-based precaution policies and procedures.

- Some High school or Equivalent
Intermediate English skills preferred. Spoken Arabic advantageous.
Demonstrate motivation to work in a health care environment.
