A Kitchen Steward plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and efficiency of a kitchen. Their main responsibilities include:
1. Cleaning & Sanitization
- Wash, clean, and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and dishes.
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas, including floors, walls, and storage spaces.
- Ensure proper waste disposal and recycling practices.
2. Dishwashing & Equipment Maintenance
- Operate dishwashing machines and clean kitchen tools manually when required.
- Ensure all cutlery, glassware, and cookware are properly stored after cleaning.
- Regularly check and maintain dishwashing machines and other cleaning equipment.
3. Support for Kitchen Operations
- Assist chefs and kitchen staff with ingredient preparation, if needed.
- Ensure a constant supply of clean plates, glasses, and utensils for service.
- Replenish kitchen cleaning supplies as necessary.
4. Health & Safety Compliance
- Follow food safety and hygiene standards to maintain a sanitary environment.
- Report any maintenance or safety hazards to the kitchen supervisor.
- Adhere to fire and safety protocols in the kitchen area.
5. Inventory & Stock Management
- Assist in organizing and storing kitchen supplies properly.
- Monitor stock levels of cleaning materials and request replenishment when needed.
