An Orthodontist specializes in diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental and facial irregularities. They work to align teeth and jaws using braces, clear aligners, retainers, and other orthodontic appliances. This role often involves collaborating closely with a dental team—including dental assistants, hygienists, and administrative staff—to deliver high-quality patient care tailored to improving oral function and aesthetics.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial consultations to assess orthodontic needs using clinical exams, X-rays, photographs, and 3D imaging.
- Create personalized treatment plans (e.g., fixed braces, removable appliances, aligners) based on diagnosis and patient preferences.
- Apply, adjust, and remove orthodontic devices; monitor progress and make necessary modifications throughout treatment.
- Educate patients and guardians on proper use and maintenance of appliances, oral hygiene, and compliance.
- Manage emergencies like broken brackets or wires.
- Collaborate with general dentists, oral surgeons, and other specialists when needed (e.g., extractions, orthognathic surgery).
- Keep accurate records: charts, images, digital files, and treatment notes.
- Stay up to date with continuing education, best techniques, and relevant regulations.
