Job Purpose:
To provide advanced surgical care for infants, children, and adolescents requiring operative management of congenital, developmental, traumatic, and oncologic conditions. The Consultant Pediatric Surgeon ensures high-quality, evidence-based surgical interventions while promoting a family-centered approach in accordance with SEHA’s standards of care.
Key Responsibilities:
Evaluate, diagnose, and surgically manage pediatric conditions including neonatal anomalies, gastrointestinal disorders, urologic and thoracic pathologies, and pediatric tumors.
Perform a wide range of elective and emergency pediatric surgical procedures, including minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgeries.
Manage preoperative and postoperative care, ensuring safe and effective recovery and follow-up.
Provide surgical consultation to pediatricians, neonatologists, emergency physicians, and other referring specialties.
Participate in neonatal intensive care (NICU), pediatric intensive care (PICU), and emergency department multidisciplinary care planning.
Engage in family counseling and education regarding diagnoses, surgical options, risks, and recovery plans.
Document all clinical interactions and surgical procedures using SEHA’s electronic medical record system.
Supervise and mentor residents, junior doctors, and surgical staff, contributing to education and continuous professional development.
Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement projects, research initiatives, and morbidity/mortality reviews.
Adhere strictly to SEHA and DOH guidelines on infection control, patient safety, and ethical medical practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized medical school.
Completion of residency in General Surgery and fellowship training in Pediatric Surgery from a recognized program.
Board Certification in Pediatric Surgery (e.g., American Board, CCT with Pediatric Surgery subspecialty, FRCS-Ped, or equivalent).
Valid DOH Consultant License in Pediatric Surgery or eligibility to obtain it.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of post-specialty certification experience as a Consultant Pediatric Surgeon.
