Job Summary:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Psychology Instructor to deliver Pearson
BTEC Level 4 courses in Counselling and Applied Psychology. The ideal candidate will
bring academic expertise, professional experience, and a commitment to fostering
student development. The instructor will play a key role in developing students’
knowledge, reflective practice, and applied skills in preparation for further education or
professional counselling roles.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver engaging and inclusive instruction for the following Level 4 units:
● Personal & Professional Development through Inclusive Practice
● Developing Empathic Communication for Effective Therapeutic Relationships
● Preparing for Research (Pearson-set)
● Ethical Frameworks in Counselling
● Self-awareness & Reflective Practice
● Theoretical Perspectives in Counselling
● Individual Differences
● Digital Approaches in Caring Professions
Prepare lesson plans, teaching materials, and assessments aligned with Pearson
curriculum and internal quality standards.
Monitor, assess, and track student progress while providing constructive feedback.
Ensure compliance with supervision standards:
● Average of 1.5 hours of supervision per month per student
● Minimum ratio of 1 hour of supervision per 8 hours of student counselling
practice
● Support students with coursework and practical skills development.
● Provide academic and pastoral support to help students achieve their full
potential.
● Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and placement
hours.
● Participate in departmental meetings and support extracurricular academic
initiatives.
Qualifications:
● A Masters degree in Psychology, Counselling, or a related field or a Bachelors
degree in Psychology, Counselling, or a related field with teaching experience.
● Recognized teaching/training qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
● Membership in at least one professional counselling or psychology body (e.g.,
BACP, ACC, UKCP, NCS, BPC, HGI).
● Ability to map teaching and supervision practices to SCoPEd Column A therapist
competencies.
Skills & Experience:
● Strong theoretical and applied knowledge of counselling and psychology.
● Experience in vocational education and coursework-based assessment.
● Proficient in digital education platforms and blended learning tools.
● Excellent communication, classroom management, and interpersonal skills.
● Committed to ethical practice and continued professional development.
● Preferred Attributes:
● Experience in further education (FE), vocational colleges, or training centers.
● Familiarity with Pearson’s BTEC policies and grading structure.
● Background in mental health practice or counselling services is advantageous.
