Job Description
Job Summary:
The Resident Engineer is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day execution of infrastructure projects on-site. This role ensures that construction activities are carried out according to design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. The Resident Engineer coordinates with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders to maintain project quality, progress, and cost management. Additionally, they supervise site operations, resolve technical issues, and ensure the overall success of the infrastructure project.
Key Job Duties:
- Site Supervision & Quality Control:
- Oversee the daily activities on-site to ensure that construction works are carried out as per the approved plans, specifications, and safety standards.
- Conduct regular inspections to monitor construction quality and compliance with contract documents.
- Ensure that all work is performed safely, adhering to site-specific safety plans and regulations.
- Contractor Coordination & Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact between contractors, consultants, and the project management team.
- Communicate and coordinate with the contractor to resolve any on-site issues, delays, or disputes.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure that project milestones are met within the specified timeline and budget.
- Project Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate site records, including daily progress reports, logs of work, and inspection reports.
- Document any site issues, delays, or incidents and prepare comprehensive reports for review by the project manager.
- Ensure that all necessary project documentation is complete, including materials testing and quality assurance documents.
- Compliance & Safety Management:
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory standards to prevent accidents or incidents on-site.
- Monitor compliance with environmental, safety, and construction regulations.
- Perform safety audits and attend safety meetings to promote a culture of safety on-site.
- Technical Support & Problem Solving:
- Provide technical guidance and support to the contractor and other site personnel.
- Resolve any technical issues or challenges that arise during construction, coordinating with design engineers when necessary.
- Review and approve contractor submittals, such as shop drawings, material approvals, and method statements.
- Progress Monitoring & Reporting:
- Monitor the physical and financial progress of the project to ensure that work is completed on schedule and within budget.
- Prepare progress reports and conduct regular meetings with stakeholders to update them on project status and resolve any concerns.
- Stakeholder Management:
- Liaise with stakeholders, including local authorities, municipal representatives, and other relevant parties, to ensure smooth project execution.
- Assist in obtaining necessary permits or approvals from authorities, as required.
- Inspection & Testing:
- Supervise and coordinate the inspection and testing of construction materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Manage the commissioning and handover of completed works, ensuring compliance with all required documentation.
- Change Management:
- Monitor and manage changes to the scope of work, identifying any variations in costs or timelines and advising the project manager accordingly.
- Ensure that all changes are documented, reviewed, and approved in accordance with project protocols.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 15+ years of experience in infrastructure projects.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Proven experience in site supervision and quality control.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Thorough understanding of safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Additional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or CCM (Certified Construction Manager)
- Knowledge of sustainable construction practices and LEED certification processes
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project)
