Job Summary:
A security officer who is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure working environment for employees and visitors in a security-related setting, such as a private security company, a corporate security department, or a government agency. The primary focus of this role is to identify and mitigate security risks and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Risk Assessment: Conduct security risk assessments to identify potential hazards and vulnerabilities in the security environment. This includes evaluating physical security measures, access controls, and emergency response procedures.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and industry standards. Stay updated on changes in regulations and implement necessary changes to maintain compliance.
Safety Training: Develop and deliver safety training programs for security personnel. Ensure that all team members are trained in emergency response, security protocols, and the use of safety equipment.
Emergency Response: Establish and maintain emergency response plans and procedures. Conduct drills and simulations to prepare security personnel for various security incidents.
Incident Investigation: Investigate security incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions. Ensure proper documentation and reporting of incidents.
Security Equipment: Oversee the maintenance and functionality of security equipment and systems, such as surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarm systems.
Safety Inspections: Conduct regular safety inspections to identify potential hazards and security weaknesses. Collaborate with relevant teams to address these issues promptly.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incident reports, and safety-related documentation. Ensure all records are up to date and accessible.
Safety Culture: Promote a culture of safety within the security department. Encourage security personnel to prioritize safety and follow established safety protocols.
Reporting: Prepare and present safety reports to senior management, highlighting key safety metrics, incident trends, and recommendations for improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety, Security Management).
- Relevant certifications, such as SIRA.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, security protocols, and emergency response procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety.
Experience:
- Prior experience in a security-related role is preferred.
- Experience in conducting risk assessments and safety training is an advantage.
- Familiarity with security equipment and systems.
