Pediatric dentistry is the specialty of dentistry which deals with the therapeutic and preventive oral health care of children. It integrates a wide variety of skills, procedures, and techniques from other disciplines that are adapted to the special needs of children. Pediatric dentistry thus encompasses all aspects of dentistry, including some aspects of all other dental specialties in an age-appropriate way. The incumbent serves as the liaison and department spokesperson for matters concerning the delivery of pediatric dentistry care.
- Practices diagnostic, preventive, remedial pedodontic service for all pediatric patients.
- To conduct assessment & re-assessment for all patients in the OPD, on admission, and prior to any procedure.
- Provides input to dental management with regard to the selection of equipment, materials, dental facility design, and infection control practices, as it pertains to the practice of pediatric dentistry.
- Serves as the resource person for quality improvement matters and review of patient care issues for the pediatric dentistry service.
- Coordinates and chairs patient care review sessions of complex pediatric dentistry cases.
- Records all pertinent data in medical and dental records accurately and promptly, indicating thereon the chief complaint, diagnosis, treatment administered and recommendations for further action. Records periodically in the patient’s chart the progress and problems related to the case.
- Keeps current with new techniques/procedures in the practice of pedodontics, recommends & implements as approved.
- Responsible for the proper practice of infection control guidelines in all clinical areas.
- Keeps current with emergency techniques as they emerge and evolve.
- Active participation and sustained qualification in all cardio-pulmonary resuscitation programs.
- Attends staff meetings and weekly rounds and participates in in-service activities as required, i.e., Morbidity & Mortality conferences, Peer Reviews, etc.
- Performs additional duties as designated by the Head of the Department.
- D.D.S. or D.M.D. from an approved Dental School (American Dental Association approved or equivalent). 2 years post-graduate study in pedodontics to be eligible for the American Board of pedodontics certification.
- Minimum of five (5) years practice as a Pediatric dentist with the dental clinic (two year residency can be included).
- Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of medical ethics, with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
- Current licensure in country of origin and with DHA license to practice pediatric dentistry in Dubai, UAE.
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients & families.
