A Gypsum Carpenter specializes in installing, assembling, and repairing gypsum board (drywall) structures such as walls, ceilings, and partitions in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. This role requires precision, craftsmanship, and adherence to safety standards to deliver high-quality finishes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Measure, cut, and install gypsum boards according to design specifications and blueprints.
- Assemble and secure metal or wooden frames to walls, ceilings, and partitions before installing gypsum boards.
- Fill joints, nail indentations, and cracks with joint compound and smooth surfaces for finishing.
- Apply tape to cover joints between boards and ensure a seamless finish.
- Sand gypsum surfaces to achieve a smooth, even finish ready for painting or other final treatments.
- Install corner beads and control joints to prevent cracking.
- Repair and replace damaged gypsum boards as needed.
- Follow safety guidelines and regulations to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Collaborate with other construction professionals, such as electricians and plumbers, to ensure proper installation and integration of building systems.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in carpentry or construction is preferred.
- Proven experience as a gypsum carpenter or in a similar role.
- Have experience in joinery works.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools, such as saws, drills, and hammers.
- Strong understanding of construction materials, techniques, and safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy materials and work in various positions.
Working Conditions:
- Work is typically performed at construction sites, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.
- May require lifting heavy materials, working at heights, or in confined spaces.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, and safety glasses is mandatory.
