Position Summary: The High School Performing Arts Assistant is a key support role within the school’s Performing Arts Department. The assistant will be responsible for providing administrative and instructional support to the department’s music teachers and will assist and accompany music classes and school performances. This role requires a blend of musical proficiency, as well as the ability to manage day-to-day tasks that help ensure smooth operations within the department.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as the accompanist for rehearsals, performances, and assessments for students in the high school.
- Play the piano for choir, and other school music-related events as required.
- Sight-read music at a high proficiency level and adjust to changes in tempo or musical cues during rehearsals.
- Collaborate with the performing arts faculty to prepare and rehearse musical selections for concerts, festivals, and auditions.
- Assist performance arts department faculty during daily classes, helping to manage student needs, distribute materials, and provide individual support during rehearsals.
- Supervise students in smaller breakout groups to assist with practicing parts, ensemble pieces, or other music-related activities.
- Support teachers in setting up and organizing instruments, music stands, and technology for classroom use.
- Aid in classroom management, ensuring that students remain on task and are engaged in the learning process. Assist in creating a positive, organized, and efficient learning environment.
- Be available for after-school and weekend rehearsals and performances as required.
- Help organize and catalog sheet music, instruments, and other department resources.
- Assist in coordinating logistics for performances, including setting up the performance area, managing student schedules, and handling equipment.
- Maintain inventory and ensure proper care of musical instruments, costumes, and other materials related to performances.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music or equivalent degree/diploma in a related field preferred.
- Proficiency in piano accompaniment, with strong sight-reading skills.
- Experience accompanying high school choir performances, musicals, or other ensembles is highly desirable.

Terms of Employment:
This position requires flexibility to work after school and occasionally on weekends to support performances and rehearsals.This position is classified as a staff position and reports to the High School Principal. General working hours are from 7:45 am - 3:45 pm, Monday through Thursday and 7:45 am - 12:45 pm (on site) & 2:30 pm - 3:45 pm (remote/flexible) on Fridays.
