The Role
As Mechanical Supervisor, you will ensure your team delivers work safely and to the required quality standards, meeting contractual and regulatory obligations. You will plan, supervise, and monitor site activities, enforcing company, client, and legislative safety and quality procedures. Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities 1. Team Management Allocate and monitor mechanical fitting tasks to ensure performance and productivity targets are met. Plan, organise, and execute work within scope, maintaining safety, quality, and schedule expectations. Assist the Resident Engineer and Section Engineer to ensure correct operational methods are followed. Coach and mentor team members, promoting continuous development. 2. Safety & Compliance Enforce site safety procedures, including risk assessments, method statements, and permit-to-work systems. Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings, including Focus2Zero error prevention tools and safety culture initiatives. Actively monitor hazard awareness on site. Fully engage with the Improvement Observation process. 3. Quality & Performance Ensure all operations under supervision are carried out safely and to quality standards. Identify and address issues with workmanship or procedures, working closely with quality engineers. Ensure Critical Task procedures are correctly applied and administered. Share lessons learned and best practices through the IQ process. Drive continuous improvement in site performance and proactive reporting. 4. Administration & Reporting Complete required administrative tasks accurately and on time. Report on progress as required by the site contract. Conduct post-job assessments for all team members to support event completion dates. Scope
Requirements
Required Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience Essential General secondary education (High School). Full apprenticeship in a relevant trade or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Fitting. Minimum 3 years’ experience as Mechanical Supervisor on nuclear outage projects. 3 years’ advanced craftsman status as Mechanical Fitter. Fluent in English (spoken and written) – minimum IELTS 5.5. Sound understanding of Human Performance principles. Experience delivering risk assessments, method statements, and permit-to-work systems. IOSH Managing Safely. ECITB SMTDs Modules as required. Preferred NEBOSH Managing Safely. N/SVQ or QCF Level 3 (or higher) in Supervisory Management. Additional experience in mechanical operations within the nuclear sector. Experience supervising teams in nuclear outage environments. Experience with Feed and Condensate systems and Common Water systems. Previous experience as a Chargehand.
