The Procurement Officer – Animals is responsible to manage the procurement of animal-related supplies, equipment, services, and specialized veterinary products for animals residing within a private estate. This includes handling vendor relationships, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality goods (e.g., feed, bedding, grooming supplies, medical items), and coordinating with animal care professionals to meet operational needs while maintaining the highest standards of welfare, hygiene, and compliance with UAE animal welfare regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Procurement, Supply Chain, Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Certification in Procurement and Supply Chain Management (e.g., CIPS Level 2 or higher) is an advantage.
- Basic Animal Welfare or Veterinary Product Handling Certification is preferred (if available).
- Valid UAE Driving License (mandatory for market and supplier visits).
- Familiarity with UAE Ministry of Climate Change & Environment (MOCCAE) guidelines on animal welfare and product importation is a strong plus.
EXPERIENCE:
- 2–4 years of experience in procurement, preferably with exposure to animal care, veterinary services, stables, farms, or zoological operations.
- Experience sourcing animal feed, grooming supplies, medical products, bedding, enrichment tools, and specialized animal handling equipment.
- Experience working with animal care professionals, veterinary clinics, or suppliers in the UAE/GCC.
- Familiarity with import procedures for animal products, especially if sourcing from overseas.
KEY SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
Animal-Specific Product Knowledge
- Strong understanding of various animal care requirements, including pet, stable, aviary, or exotic animal needs.
- Familiarity with types of feeds, supplements, bedding, veterinary consumables, grooming tools, and hygiene products.
- Awareness of product quality standards and expiration/safety checks.
Procurement Process Management
- Issuing RFQs, preparing LPOs, maintaining purchase logs, and tracking deliveries.
- Performing market research to find suitable and ethical suppliers locally and internationally.
- Handling urgent/emergency orders (e.g., vet meds or equipment replacements).
Vendor Sourcing & Relationship Management
- Building a database of reliable, specialized animal suppliers, both locally and internationally.
- Negotiating favorable terms while ensuring quality and ethical compliance.
- Scheduling regular deliveries based on feeding schedules and vet care routines.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensuring purchased items meet local veterinary health standards, MOCCAE regulations, and estate protocols.
- Managing documentation such as import permits, customs clearance, certificates of origin, and product safety sheets.
- Maintaining clear records of all animal-related procurement activity.
Technical Tools & Reporting
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word) and familiar with ERP/procurement systems.
- Ability to generate monthly procurement reports, supplier performance summaries, and cost breakdowns.
Coordination & Communication
- Strong coordination with veterinarians, animal handlers, stable keepers, and logistics teams.
- Ability to understand and translate technical or medical requirements into procurement action.
- Clear, professional communication with both internal stakeholders and suppliers.
