Rope Rescue Trainer
Job Purpose
To deliver advanced-level rope rescue training programs in compliance with NFPA 1006, NFPA 1983, and other international technical rescue standards. The trainer is responsible for preparing emergency responders, firefighters, and industrial rescue teams to safely conduct high-risk rope access and rescue operations across vertical, confined space, urban, and industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery:
- Deliver Level I and Level II Rope Rescue training courses in accordance with NFPA 1006:2021 and NFPA 1670 standards.
- Instruct participants in:
- High-angle and low-angle rescue techniques
- Mechanical advantage systems and anchoring
- Rappelling, belaying, ascending, lowering systems
- Victim packaging and extraction techniques
- Confined space rescue integration with rope systems
- Facilitate scenario-based exercises, simulations, and realistic drills at training towers or field locations.
Course Development:
- Develop and update course content, lesson plans, trainee workbooks, and assessment tools.
- Customize rope rescue modules to meet the specific needs of civil defense units, oil & gas sites, offshore platforms, or utility sectors.
- Incorporate industry best practices and updates from NFPA, ITRA, SPRAT, and IRATA standards.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all training is conducted following NFPA 1983 for rope and equipment compliance.
- Inspect and maintain rescue equipment, including ropes, pulleys, harnesses, and edge protection.
- Monitor safety protocols during practical sessions and enforce PPE usage.
Evaluation & Certification:
- Conduct theoretical and practical assessments for trainees, ensuring competence in line with certifying authority requirements.
- Issue competency-based certification in collaboration with accredited certification bodies or civil defense authorities.
Trainer Development & Leadership:
- Mentor junior instructors or assistant trainers.
- Participate in Train-the-Trainer programs and maintain up-to-date rescue certifications.
- Stay informed about evolving rescue technologies and NFPA revisions.
Required Qualifications:
- Certified NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Technician (Level II) or equivalent.
- Valid Train-the-Trainer certification in technical rescue or adult education.
- Certification from recognized bodies (e.g., ITRA Level 3, SPRAT Level III, IRATA Level 3) is an asset.
- First Aid / EMS qualification (e.g., First Responder, EMT) is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in technical rescue operations, including real incident response.
- At least 3 years delivering advanced rope rescue training in an NFPA-compliant environment.
- Experience training firefighters, military, civil defense, or high-risk industry personnel (e.g., oil & gas, utilities).
Key Skills:
- Expert knowledge of rescue equipment, rope systems, and rigging physics.
- Strong instructional, facilitation, and practical coaching skills.
- Physical fitness and ability to work at height under challenging conditions.
- Competency in safety management and incident command awareness.
Preferred Attributes:
- Bilingual (Arabic and English) is preferred for regional delivery.
- Familiarity with UAE Civil Defense training protocols and facility requirements.
- Willingness to travel and conduct training at remote or offshore sites.
