A Site Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for construction work based on site conditions, drawings, specifications, and material requirements. The role requires frequent on-site visits to assess actual work conditions and coordinate with engineers, quantity surveyors, and procurement teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct on-site measurements and collect data to prepare cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracting.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and site conditions to assess project requirements.
- Prepare BOQs (Bill of Quantities) based on approved drawings and scope of work.
- Work closely with site engineers, project managers, and procurement teams to obtain accurate information.
- Assist in preparing tender documents, project budgets, and pricing proposals.
- Update estimates based on design changes, site variations, or unforeseen conditions.
- Identify potential cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations and compare costs.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market prices for materials and labor.
- Support in project planning by providing accurate quantity take-offs and cost data.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as an estimator in construction, preferably with on-site estimation background.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Excel, and estimation software (e.g., PlanSwift, CostX).
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Good knowledge of construction materials, methods, and local pricing.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
