Clinical activities:
- Responsible for providing comprehensive patient care in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
- Responsible for assessment and reassessment of patients.
- Cares for and treats women during prenatal, natal, and postnatal periods.
- Provides surgical care in the operating room and in the O.P.D. pertaining to gynecologic and obstetric conditions for both emergency and planned procedures.
- Covers the Delivery Room to include admitting patients, reviews their history, plans a course of action, and performs both spontaneous and operative deliveries while interacting with midwives.
- Covers the Emergency Service by promptly responding to calls for consultation.
- Provides out-patient care in Clinics, as assigned by the head of department.
- Works evenings, nights, week-ends and holidays according to the schedule compiled by the head of department.
- Performs and interprets ultrasound examinations on an out-patient and in-patient basis.
- Interprets fetal heart rate monitor and takes necessary action accordingly.
- Carries out formal and informal consultations from physicians from other departments.
- Interacts with patients' families to keep them informed of the patient's condition, changes in condition and plans.
Administrative activities:
- Attends committee meetings when so assigned by the Head of department.
- Monitors clinical and other established indicators to ensure ongoing quality assurance.
- Reviews journals, texts or periodicals in order to update latest techniques, procedures, drugs and therapy.
- Involved in development of International level guidelines to standardize and improve quality of service provided.
- Follows standard policies and procedures as required by HAAD, JCI, ISO, OSHMS and other regulatory bodies.
- Participates in scheduled in-service training programs, CMEs, divisional teaching activities, the regular physicians’ conference or other committees as requested.
- Participate in improvement initiates within the department
- Handle complaints in an amicable manner when necessary
- Foster interdepartmental liaison in order to ensure maintenance of established level of Service Agreements.
- Aware of hospital fire policy and emergency procedures.
- Participate in a quality assurance program for the obstetrics and gynecology services and help develop and monitor indicators
- Assist the senior staff in developing best practice guidelines protocols
- Documents all care provided and education/information given to patients within their medical health record, as per professional and practice standards / protocols.

- Completion of a recognized higher professional education program.
- Certification of higher professional education recognized by the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD): MRCOG/FRCOG plus CCT(GMC Specialist Registration) in Obstetrics & Gynecology, or FRCOG, or American Board Certification, or FRCS Canada, or FRACOG, or Equivalent specialist registration in Obstetrics & Gynecology recognized by the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD).
- Must have minimum of five years of experience since gaining the higher qualification.
- Minimum of three years’ experience as a registered Consultant, Board Certified Specialist or DOH recognized equivalent in the required specialty
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education.
- Training, experience and clinical competence in one of the following aspects of Obstetrics & Gynecology – General, Fetal Medicine, Oncology, Infertility or Urogynecology.
- Must possess HAAD License to practice.
- Must possess thorough knowledge of medical ethics.
- Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organizational requirements.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes and ability to consult with staff regarding continuous improvement.
- Excellent command of oral and written English. Arabic language advantageous/desirable but not essential.
- Possess a “can do” and flexible approach.
- Ability to demonstrate highly developed communication and organizational skills at all levels.
