Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Responsible for overseeing and managing all welding-related activities on the construction site to ensure compliance with project specifications, international codes, and quality standards. The role involves developing welding procedures, qualifying welders, resolving technical issues, and supporting the QA/QC and construction teams throughout the project lifecycle
- Develop, review, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) in compliance with project and industry standards (e.g., ASME, AWS, API).
- Oversee welder qualification testing and maintain welder performance records.
- Provide technical support to site construction and fabrication teams on welding issues, materials selection, and joint design.
- Monitor and ensure welding activities comply with approved procedures, specifications, and quality standards.
- Liaise with QA/QC teams to support inspection, NDT coordination, and acceptance criteria.
- Investigate welding defects, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective/preventive actions.
- Review drawings and welding-related documentation to ensure accuracy and constructability.
- Support procurement by reviewing welding consumables and material specifications for compatibility.
- Participate in audits, client inspections, and project reviews related to welding and fabrication.
- Maintain records of welding activities, including weld maps, NDT reports, repair logs, and as-built documentation.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental policies during all welding operations.

Expected:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in welding engineering within the oil & gas or heavy industrial construction sector.
- Strong knowledge of welding codes and standards (ASME IX, AWS D1.1, API 1104, etc.).
- Experience with various welding techniques (GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, GMAW) and materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel).
- Familiarity with NDT techniques (RT, UT, PT, MT) and inspection requirements.
- Strong understanding of metallurgy, weldability, and welding defects.
- Good communication and coordination skills to work with cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and isometric plans.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with offshore/onshore pipelines, pressure vessels, and structural welding.
- Familiarity with welding software and documentation systems (e.g., WeldEye, SmartWeld).
