Role OverviewThe Assistant Accountant will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely financial data entry, supporting day-to-day accounting functions, and assisting with month-end and year-end processes. This role is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, and a passion for working in a fast-paced, tech-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Enter and process supplier and customer invoices, ensuring accurate PO matching.
- Process and record payments (bank transfers, cheques, etc.) and handle employee expense claims.
- Update and reconcile the purchase ledger, resolving discrepancies and supplier queries.
- Prepare weekly and monthly payment runs.
- Maintain accurate financial records using accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or MS Dynamics).
- Perform bank reconciliations and assist with month-end closing activities.
- File and organize financial documents, both digitally and physically.
- Support additional duties such as VAT returns, payroll processing, generating basic financial reports (e.g., cash flow summaries), and audit preparation.
Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant, Finance Assistant, or similar role.
- Strong data entry skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, MS Dynamics) and MS Excel.
- Good understanding of bookkeeping principles.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently in a remote environment.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Nice to Have
- Progress towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent accounting qualification.
- Experience supporting audits and preparing VAT returns.
- Familiarity with working in a tech or start-up environment.
