Job Summary: The Commis is responsible for assisting in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food. This entry-level position offers opportunities to learn and develop culinary skills while supporting senior kitchen staff in maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in food preparation and cooking under the supervision of a Chef de Partie.
- Follow instructions from senior chefs to ensure the consistent quality and presentation of dishes.
- Prepare and organize ingredients, including chopping, marinating, and portioning.
- Ensure that the kitchen is kept clean and organized at all times, including proper storage of ingredients and equipment.
- Maintain food safety and hygiene standards in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Assist with inventory management and stock rotation.
- Help in the setup and breakdown of kitchen stations.
- Follow recipes and presentation guidelines as set by the chef.
- Assist in the preparation of mise en place for each shift.
- Be proactive in maintaining kitchen cleanliness, including washing dishes and keeping workstations tidy.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Support the team in other kitchen-related tasks as required.
