Job description
The Lathe Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining lathe machines to shape metal or plastic components according to engineering drawings and specifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with precision machining tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate lathe machines to produce precision parts according to blueprints, sketches, and instructions.
- Load and align materials, ensuring proper placement and secure clamping in the lathe machine.
- Program, adjust, and control the lathe to perform cutting, grinding, drilling, and threading operations.
- Monitor machine operations to detect any malfunctions and make necessary adjustments to ensure quality output.
- Measure and inspect completed parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to ensure they meet exact specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of lathe machines and related tools.
- Follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Keep accurate records of production runs, machine settings, and any deviations from standard procedures.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize processes and improve product quality.
Skills & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in machining or CNC operations is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Lathe Operator, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of machine operations and metalworking principles.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic math skills and the ability to make precise measurements and calculations.
