Principal Irrigation Engineer

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Principal Irrigation Engineer to join our team! This role involves providing technical expertise, leading projects, and ensuring that irrigation systems are efficient, sustainable, and compliant with regulatory standards.
Job Summary:
The Principal Irrigation Engineer leads the design, implementation, and management of irrigation systems for agricultural, urban, and industrial applications. This role involves overseeing projects, ensuring efficient water resource management, and promoting sustainable irrigation practices to meet the needs of clients and stakeholders.
What you'll be doing:
Expertise in irrigation system design, water distribution, and resource optimization.
Ability to manage complex projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
Strong analytical skills for interpreting data and developing practical solutions.
Commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable engineering practices.
Plan, design, and oversee the development of irrigation systems, including canals, pipelines, sprinklers, and drip systems.
Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure successful completion.
Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments for new and existing irrigation projects.
Perform hydraulic and hydrological analysis to design efficient irrigation systems.
Develop water distribution plans to optimize water use and minimize waste.
Incorporate modern irrigation technologies, such as automated systems and precision irrigation.
Experienced in BIM for infrastructure and network clash detection/resolution
Expert in hydraulic software (Infoworks WS, Bentley and Autodesk civil 3D, Esri GIS)
Experienced with Abu Dhabi ADQCC standards and authorities’ approvals procedures.
Experienced in design optimization, Value engineering and Project value improvement.
Experienced in Irrigation demand Calculation and Water optimization
Hydro zoning and irrigation scheduling solutions
Supervise and mentor senior and junior engineers, technicians, and support staff.
Review and approve technical reports, designs, and calculations prepared by the team.
Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
Distribute the work efficiently insuring quality, time commitment and proper team utilization.
Coordinate with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure project alignment and compliance.
Provide technical advice and recommendations during project meetings and public consultations.
Always maintain internal coordination and interface management between different stakeholders and internal teams.
Ensure irrigation designs and operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations related to water use and environmental protection.
Prepare and submit reports, permits, and environmental impact assessments as required.
Conduct Design review for engineering solutions, design report, drawings, specifications and BOQs.
Identify and resolve any issues during design, construction supervision and post contract phases.
Conduct site inspections to monitor construction and maintenance activities.
Identify and resolve issues related to irrigation system performance or compliance.
Implement best practices for system reliability, safety, and sustainability.
Promote the use of sustainable irrigation practices, such as water recycling and conservation techniques.
Explore opportunities for integrating renewable energy sources (e.g., solar-powered pumps) into irrigation systems.
What Required Skills You'll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Typically 12+ years of experience in irrigation engineering, with a focus on system design and water resource management.
Proficiency in hydraulic modeling and design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, EPANET, Infoworks WS, Bentley Software's).
Strong knowledge of irrigation methods, water resource management, and environmental regulations.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
