As a Production Assistant in the exhibition/events industry, you’ll provide logistical and hands-on support to ensure the smooth execution of trade show booths, brand experiences, and live event installations. A strong understanding of technical drawings and build plans is essential for supporting production teams and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in organizing all stages of exhibition stand production, from pre-build planning to on-site installation and breakdown.
- Interpret technical drawings, plans, and build specs to support accurate execution.
- Coordinate with designers, fabricators, AV teams, and logistics suppliers.
- Help with inventory, packing lists, and delivery checks for event materials.
- Support production managers with administrative duties (e.g. timelines, supplier follow-ups, H&S docs).
- Be present on-site during install/de-rig to assist contractors and solve minor logistical issues.
- Ensure stand components match design specifications and flag discrepancies.
- Liaise with venue staff for access, permits, and compliance.
Technical Skills Required
- Ability to read and interpret floorplans, elevations, and technical drawings (PDFs, DWGs)
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, SketchUp, or 3D MAX (even at a basic level)
- Understanding of stand construction materials and methods (e.g. MDF, truss, aluminum frames)
- Awareness of health and safety regulations and venue guidelines
- Basic knowledge of AV setups, power layouts, and graphics installation
Preferred Background
- Education in event production, exhibition design, interior design, or technical theatre
- Experience on-site at trade shows or live events
- Internships or junior roles in build & fabrication companies or event agencies
