Job Summary
The Steel Structure Draftsman is responsible for preparing detailed structural drawings and fabrication shop drawings of steel components using CAD software. The role requires high accuracy, coordination with the engineering and site teams, and a strong understanding of steel detailing, connections, and fabrication practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare structural and fabrication drawings for steel structures such as frames, trusses, columns, and beams
- Create GA (General Arrangement), erection, and detailed shop drawings based on design inputs
- Interpret structural design calculations and convert them into precise drawings
- Coordinate with engineers and other departments to ensure accurate detailing
- Review and update drawings based on site revisions, redlines, or engineering changes
- Ensure drawings comply with industry standards, project specifications, and client requirements
- Generate material take-offs (MTOs) and Bill of Quantities (BOQs) from drawings
- Maintain drawing records and version control as per project documentation standards
- Collaborate with Tekla/BIM teams when needed for model coordination
- Support the site and fabrication teams with technical drawing clarifications
Requirements
- Diploma or ITI in Civil / Structural Drafting or equivalent
- 3–6 years of experience in structural steel drafting in construction or fabrication industries
- Proficient in AutoCAD; knowledge of Tekla Structures or Revit is a strong advantage
- Strong knowledge of steel structure connections and fabrication standards
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and structural layouts
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work independently
- Good communication skills and team coordination abilities
