Job Purpose:
To provide operational and technical support to the yard team by conducting and assisting in minor Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) activities, ensuring vehicles received and dispatched from the yard meet internal quality, safety, and functionality standards. The role ensures timely escalation and rectification of minor technical issues in collaboration with the workshop and warehouse teams.
Technical Operations
▪ Conduct basic vehicle readiness checks including battery voltage testing, fluid levels (engine oil, coolant, brake fluid), and tire pressure adjustments.
▪ Perform light diagnostics using handheld tools or scanners for initial fault identification (e.g., dashboard warning lights, electrical resets).
▪ Identify issues like scratches, dents, alignment mismatches, or loose parts during visual inspection of new and outbound vehicles.
▪ Carry out minor mechanical or cosmetic fixes, such as tightening loose panels, changing fuses, replacing bulbs, or applying protective films/tapes when necessary.
▪ Assist in periodic functional testing of vehicle features like lights, horn, wipers, power windows, mirrors, and infotainment system.
▪ Coordinate with Quality Control (QC) personnel to ensure all inspected vehicles meet dispatch requirements.
▪ Ensure readiness of EV and ICE vehicles by monitoring charging levels and reporting anomalies (e.g., charging port issues, BMS alerts).
▪ Flag and isolate vehicles with non-conformities or damage until technical clearance is received from the workshop or QC team.
Warehouse & Workshop Support
▪ Interface with the warehouse to request, track, and verify receipt of PDI-related spare parts, consumables, or accessories (e.g., filters, wheel caps, wiper blades, mirrors).
▪ Coordinate with the workshop team for prompt repair or escalation of issues beyond minor intervention (e.g., electronic faults, mechanical concerns).
▪ Maintain real-time inventory logs for essential PDI tools and materials (e.g., battery tester, tire inflator, fuses, bulbs) and request replenishment as needed.
▪ Assist with vehicle movements between yard, workshop, and dispatch bays to support operational flow.
▪ Support installation or refitting of minor components prior to vehicle release, ensuring manufacturer standards are met.
▪ Prepare and label service-ready kits or pre-fitting accessories from warehouse stocks for new vehicles (e.g., floor mats, manuals, tool kits).
▪ Follow proper documentation and ERP/Oracle/SAP entries for parts requisition, usage, and closure of PDI-related tasks.
Safety, Compliance & Documentation
▪ Follow safety protocols for vehicle handling and PDI inspections including PPE usage and equipment care.
▪ Adhere to SOPs and safety checklists while conducting inspections to avoid hazards and prevent damage.
▪ Complete and maintain accurate checklists, inspection reports, and daily task logs.
▪ Participate in routine audits, stock checks, and compliance drills within yard and workshop areas.
▪ Ensure regulatory and internal documentation is accurate and ready for audit (e.g., handover reports, defect tags, resolution slips).
▪ Strong understanding of vehicle components and systems - ICE and EV preferred.
▪ Familiarity with PDI processes, tools, checklists, and basic automotive technical issues.
▪ Knowledge of spare parts usage, parts cataloguing, and vehicle configuration standards.
▪ Awareness of occupational safety and environmental regulations relevant to yard/workshop operations
▪ Basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
▪ Ability to use diagnostic tools (manual and electronic).
▪ Effective communication for coordination with cross-functional teams (warehouse, QC, workshop).
▪ Recordkeeping and reporting via checklists or ERP systems.
▪ Time management and multitasking in a fast-paced yard environment.
Qualification and Experience:
▪ Education: ITI/Diploma in Automobile/Mechanical Engineering preferred; high school with relevant technical experience acceptable.
▪ Experience: Minimum 1-2 years in automotive PDI, yard operations, or workshop support environment.
▪ Systems: Basic understanding of ERP systems (Oracle/SAP preferred) and handheld diagnostic tools.
▪ Language: Basic proficiency in English (reading & writing); additional languages (Hindi/Urdu) an advantage.
