Autonomous Robotics Research Centre


Unmanned vehicles in space, in the air, on land, on sea, and underwater offer exciting opportunities to dramatically improve safety, environmental protection and operational effectiveness – at lower cost – in both industrial and mission-critical settings.


Our research focus includes:

  • UAV research and development, covering platforms, real-time operating systems, perception and communication algorithms, control, and decision-making algorithms
  • Autonomous ground vehicle research and development for on road and off road use cases
  • Swarm architectures for heterogeneous drones and advanced communication networks
  • Low-power platforms for nano-size and pico-size UAV classes
  • Bio-inspired, evolutionary, and self-organized methodologies

Position: Marine Embedded Software and Systems Researcher


Job Description


  • Analysis of hardware, mechanics or application software for new projects of marine/underwater autonomous vehicles
  • Selection of the most appropriate platform and set up of the proper software architecture
  • Customized control design for marine and underwater vehicles (teleoperated and autonomous)
  • Monitor state of the art of underwater embedded systems, keeping an updated database, implementing the most suitable codes
  • Collaborate with the team to evaluate dependencies in order to define and drive features and system requirements
  • Write efficient and easy to read code
  • Write scientific papers and technical reports on undergoing research

Skills required for the job


  • Relevant hands-on experience developing embedded systems
  • Hands-on experience with ROS and firmware
  • Experience with middleware for autonomous vehicles
  • Knowledge of electronic circuits and sensors
  • Experience with Gazebo or other robotic simulators
  • Strong ability to analyse and understand a system
  • Great learning ability of new technologies
  • Rigor and creativity to find solutions in new projects
  • High coding skills. Languages and software tools: C++, Java, Matlab, Python
  • Standard agile tools: JIRA, Slack, Jenkins, dropbox
  • Strong team player with succeeding as a team mentality
  • Excellent communication (clear and effectively)

Qualifications


  • Master/PhD in Mechatronics or Computer Engineering or a related field
